What you asked for, how you asked, and what actually happened. Approvals and denials are equally useful. Leave your employer unnamed.
The point of this category is that there’s almost nothing useful on the open internet about how this actually goes. There’s plenty about your legal rights, which is not the same thing as knowing whether asking will work at your company, or what to say, or what happens after.
This is the format that helps most:
- What you asked for. The specific thing, not the category.
- How you asked. Verbally, in writing, through HR, through your manager, with a doctor’s note or without.
- What happened. Approved, denied, approved and then quietly ignored, approved and then held against you.
- What you’d do differently.
Skip anything you don’t want to answer. Partial is better than nothing. And leave your employer unnamed. This site is public and indexed, and a search for your company’s name plus “accommodation” is exactly the kind of thing that finds its way back to people.
Denials are as useful as approvals here. Maybe more. Nobody writes those up.
